Up in a Tree

Part 3 of the failed 365 challenge postings.  I really like climbing trees and always have which is a little strange to me since I’m not a big fan of heights or spiders and the tops of trees have both.  Those things don’t matter as much with climbing trees, though; it feels like a friend is up there with me.

First Signs of Fall

This was taken in Great Smokey Mountains National Park on our roadtrip.  The leaves were just beginning to change color in some areas and I saw a couple of these little patches of red along the trail we were walking on.

Scary Sap

Someone on Flickr thought this picture made the tree look scary.  It originally didn’t look like this, though, and I played with the colors a lot on my Mac.  Still, I think it looks pretty cool and only minimally scary.

Gnarly Tree

 

I like the placement of the two aspects of this picture: the gnarled tree and the mountains in fog.  It just seems like the tree is doing a Vanna White on the mountains 😀  What do you think?

More Juniper

This is such an interesting plant.  The wood is pretty fragrant, too, and they’re really long lived.  We have some in the park that are 200 years old!

Juniper

Junipers are such interesting trees.  Their branches and trunks curve into the most interesting shapes and grooves.  Apparently, you could eat the berries, too!
